Demand for STARS Services Keeps Growing

At STARS, we find quarterly reports to be both informative and inspiring. It is imperative to monitor the number of rides we have provided, and it is uplifting to witness the growth of our services. In the past quarter, spanning from April 1 to June 30, we successfully completed 192 rides and traveled an impressive 9210.93 miles. This remarkable achievement is a testament to the dedication and efforts of our volunteers, who have driven 100% of these miles, in their own vehicles.
Comparing the first two quarters of 2024 and 2025 revealed a significant increase in both the number of rides and the total distance covered. The rides increased by 23%, while the miles increased by 26%. These positive statistics underscore the enduring demand for our services in Sisters Country.
As the community requests more assistance, we require additional drivers to take additional rides. Volunteering as a driver is a crucial service in rural areas that are underserved by public transportation. Our passengers temporarily or permanently cannot drive themselves to their non-emergency medical appointments. According to the American Hospital Association, approximately 3.6 million people in the United States do not obtain medical care due to transportation issues. Many of these individuals reside in rural areas, such as our own, where there are limited options to take a bus, and ride services are costly.
STARS was established to address this challenge, and our mission is “Keeping Sisters Healthy, One Ride at a Time”. As a STARS volunteer, you have the flexibility to work as much or as little as you desire, and you always establish your own schedule. If you plan a getaway, you can simply refrain from signing up to drive during the dates of your absence. STARS also offers reimbursement for mileage.
